We may be biased, but we think North Carolina is the best state to live in, and more than that, the Triangle is the best area of North Carolina to live. Here, "the Triangle" refers to the area between three major universities, NC State in Raleigh, Duke in Durham, and the University of North Carolina in Chapel Hill. If you were to connect these three universities on a map, they would form a triangle! Referred to as Research Triangle Park, or RTP, the Triangle is a popular place to work and live. It's the second-largest combined statistical area in North Carolina, after the Charlotte area. If you are considering moving to the Triangle, you aren't alone. Here are seven reasons people are moving to the center of North Carolina.

1. Proximity to both the beach and the mountains

From the sand dunes of Kitty Hawk in the Outer Banks to 7 different lighthouses, North Carolina has more than 25 beaches that are easily accessible from the Triangle. With some beaches as close as 2 hours, you can easily take day trips to the beach if you want. Are you more interested in the mountains than the beach? No problem. You can get to the Blue Ridge mountains in 3 hours as well! No matter the vacation you prefer, you can have it all within a short drive.

2. Education

As mentioned above, the Triangle gets its name because of the three major universities in our area. In addition to NC State, Duke, and UNC-Chapel Hill, other public and private universities and colleges are nearby, such as Meredith College, Wake Tech Community College, and Shaw University. The options for furthering your education are endless, and regardless of what type of degree you wish to obtain, there is a school for you here.

3. Healthcare

Thanks to three major healthcare providers, their hospitals, and the medical schools at Duke and UNC-Chapel Hill, the Triangle has one of the nation’s highest concentrations of physicians and healthcare professionals. The major healthcare providers are UNC Rex Healthcare & Hospital, WakeMed Health & Hospitals, Duke University Medical Center, and Duke Raleigh Hospital.

4. Sports

Whether you are interested in college or professional sports, the Triangle has something for everybody. For hockey fans, there is the Carolina Hurricanes. For baseball fans, you have both the Durham Bulls and the Carolina Mudcats. The North Carolina FC soccer team is here as well. While there is no professional basketball team in the Triangle, two of the best college basketball programs in the country, the Duke Blue Devils and the UNC Tar Heels, call the Triangle home.

5. Beautiful Weather

If you want to live somewhere with four distinct seasons, the Triangle is for you! The average temperature in winter is 54°F; in summer is 87°F, and the average in the spring and fall is in the upper 60s/low 70s. We have mild winters, but it usually snows at least once a year. In the fall, you will witness the beauty of the leaves changing colors, and it is refreshing to see all the greenery and flowers come back to life in the spring.

6. Parks and Greenways

Getting outside and exploring has never been easier. There are over 200 parks in the city of Raleigh alone. These include playgrounds, open fields, community centers, lakes, nature preserves, pools, dog parks, historic sites, and more! Pullen Park is located just outside downtown Raleigh and is the first public park in North Carolina, the 5th oldest operating amusement park in the United States, and the 16th oldest in the world! There are also 180 miles of greenways in Raleigh that are connected to various attractions and other trails, including the Mountain to Sea trail of NC.

7. Job Opportunities

RTP is one of the greatest technological research parks in the world. Home to more than 200 companies, there are jobs in multiple fields such as pharmaceuticals, biotechnology, environmental sciences, chemicals, and microelectronics. Companies located in RTP include IBM, Cisco, SAS, Amazon, Red Hat, Lenovo, and GlaxoSmithKline. Other companies that have recently announced opening locations in the Triangle include Apple, Google, VinFast, Toyota, and Fidelity.

This list is simply scratching the surface of why people are moving to the Triangle. Other things we could have mentioned include excellent restaurants and food trucks, museums and libraries, numerous venues for shows and live music, and a great international airport. We have new home communities in Wake Forest, Wendell, Zebulon, and Raleigh. Our latest community, Tuscany, is located in Clayton, North Carolina. If you want to learn more about where we build, send us a message. We would love to tell you more and help you find the perfect community for you and your family.
