Spring into Durham!

Spring into Durham!

Spring into exploration as Durham welcomes warmer weather! Spring into adventures as the return of long days beckons you outside! Durham is a destination with a rich history and a thriving arts scene. It is also convenient to numerous opportunities to tap into nature.

Ken Harvey Homes is putting its own stamp in the city of Durham with its newest community, East End Residences. Filled with floorplans designed for spacious living and low-cost maintenance, these newly built duplexes also sit in a prime North Carolina location. Future residents will never have to look far for something to do - instead, they will often have to ask, “What will we do first?”

  • Perhaps the most famous inhabitant of Durham is its minor league baseball team, the Durham Bulls. A game at the Durham Bulls Athletic Park is a must-see for residents and visitors to the area. The team welcomes opponents to its historic venue from March to September. Fans can enjoy an affordable night out with ever-changing special promotions. Fireworks dot the post-game skyline on Friday nights, Thirsty Thursdays have returned for another season, and four-legged fans are welcome for Bark in the Park. And if someone you know feels called to run the bases, make sure a Sunday game is added to your schedule. Kids of all ages are able to test their speed after the final out is called!

  • The Durham Bulls Athletic Park is the gem of the historic American Tobacco District which offers more than baseball. This repurposed area honors its past while welcoming visitors to one of the state’s most picturesque spots. Once a thriving industrial area, it was reinvented as the tobacco industry moved away from Durham. Today, visitors can enjoy dinner and a show at the Durham Performing Arts Center or simply stroll through this beautifully restored area.

  • The Durham Farmers’ Market is open! With over 50 vendors on deck, this year’s farmers’ market will have endless produce and unique, homegrown items. The market, open Saturday mornings and Wednesday afternoons, also features locally made arts, crafts, and live music. Don’t forget to track down The Poetry Fox for a poem typed out just for you! Make a trip to The Pavillion at Durham Central Park a weekly event as activities and vendors change regularly.

  • The arrival of spring in Old Durham means Art Walks are just around the corner. This free event takes place at the end of April and allows neighborhood residents to share one-of-a-kind, handcrafted items with the public. Old Durham shines as it is transformed into an outdoor, interactive gallery that allows attendees to interact with local artists.

  • Eno River State Park offers thousands of acres of hardwood forests, rolling hills, and picture-perfect riverbanks. Hiking trails abound (thirty miles!) with a wide range of skill levels. Highlights include the Cox Mountain Trail and the Laurel Bluffs Trail, which leads to the Eno River Quarry. Now is the perfect time to explore this park as spring blooms come to life, drawing birds and butterflies to its beauty. Eno River State Park is also a popular landing zone for water lovers with plenty of room to fish, canoe, or kayak.

  • The Sarah P. Duke Gardens is a must-see for outdoor enthusiasts. With over fifty acres of botanical wonder, there is truly something for everyone to enjoy. Flowers bloom throughout the spring, summer, and fall creating a blissfully beautiful array that changes with each visit. Pack a picnic lunch, bring a favorite book, and let the hours drift away as you enjoy the scents and sounds of this favorite spot.

  • Durham’s Museum of Life & Science sits just blocks from downtown and touts over eighty acres of exhibits. With one of the largest butterfly conservatories on the east coast and a two-story science center, the museum is perfect for a day that combines leisure with learning. The facility's landscape team prioritizes providing havens for numerous rescued animals such as black bears, lemurs, and red wolves.
